Story about the Design: Based on the Sous le charme d’Orphée scarf design, this shawl celebrates Orpheus, the legendary poet and musician of Greek mythology. Hermès describes a joyful ring of mythological creatures, including a tiger, peacock, bull, python, centaur and winged horse, moving around five ancient symbolic trees: olive, bay, pomegranate, apple and Aleppo pine. Some animals dance while others sleep beneath a starry sky. Orpheus, disciple of Dionysus and Apollo, appears as the poet of poets, a shaman-like magician whose lyre can enchant the world and move even the gods of the underworld.
Artist's Story: Alice Shirley is a British artist and illustrator based in North London, known for richly detailed natural-world and mythological compositions.
