About the Jacket
A reversible Hermès leather bomber jacket featuring blue geometric horse outlines against a beige/tan background. Plain sleeves balance the patterned body, while contrasting dark blue-green ribbing defines the collar, cuffs and hem.
The plain reverse offers a more understated look. A front zipper and zipped side pockets complete the bomber silhouette on both wearable faces.
Story about the Design
Échec au Roi draws on the knight of the chessboard, bringing together the world of chess and Hermès’ equestrian heritage. The horse is reduced to a distinctive arrangement of lines and geometric shapes. On this jacket, blue outlines stand out against a warm beige/tan background, giving the motif a clear graphic presence.
Artist’s Story
Benoît-Pierre Emery began collaborating with Hermès in 2005, when Pierre-Alexis Dumas invited him to design a scarf celebrating the tenth anniversary of the fragrance 24 Faubourg. His work for the house has extended from silk scarves to tableware, including Mosaïque au 24 and H-déco. Échec au Roi reflects his use of graphic form to reinterpret a familiar subject.
