Story about the Design: Stately Wheels is built around British royal carriage imagery. Hermès states that the horse at the center is a Windsor Grey, the same horse associated with the Gold State Coach; its swirling reins frame Queen Alexandra's State Coach and the Diamond Jubilee State Coach, while the four corners carry symbols of England, Northern Ireland, Wales, and Scotland. Hermès also says Stuart Patience drew the composition from a visit to the Royal Mews.
Artist's Story: Stuart Patience is a British illustrator and printmaker based in London. He graduated from Kingston University with a degree in Illustration and Animation, and his own profile says his illustrations are hand drawn in pen and ink. Public biographies and profile pages credit him with clients and commissions including Hermès Paris, The Guardian, The New York Times, Harrods, Wallpaper Magazine, E4, Creative Review, and The Barbican, while Hermès credits him as the designer of Stately Wheels.
