Story about the Design: Stately Wheels places a Windsor Grey at the center of the composition and surrounds it with the Queen Alexandra's State Coach and the Diamond Jubilee State Coach. In the corners, English, Northern Irish, Welsh, and Scottish emblems rest on colored wheels, tying the design to the four nations of the United Kingdom. Hermès states that Stuart Patience developed the scarf after visiting the Royal Mews, the royal family's stables, which informed the ceremonial and equestrian character of the carré.
Artist's Story: Hermès identifies Stuart Patience as the British designer of Stately Wheels. In his own bio, Patience describes himself as a London-based freelance illustrator and animator who graduated from Kingston University with a BA (Hons) in Illustration and Animation.
