Story about the Design:
Della Cavalleria takes its point of departure from the 1609 Della Cavalleria by Georg Engelhard von Loehneyss, a horsemanship volume preserved in the Émile Hermès collection. Hermès describes that source as a broad compendium of horses and riding, and explains that Virginie Jamin transformed harness components into a baroque labyrinth of buckles, ropes and leather rendered with engraver-like precision. In the double-face edition, Hermès emphasizes the duality of the design through an innovative printing technique that gives the scarf two distinct visual expressions.
Artist's Story:
Virginie Jamin is identified in independent press coverage as a French children's-book illustrator whose path to Hermès began when the house noticed her at a Paris book signing. Hermès itself repeatedly describes her as a long-time partner, and her work for the maison extends beyond carré silk into tableware, including Tressages Équestres. Across these Hermès projects, both the house and Architectural Digest highlight the precision of her hand-drawn line and her modern reinterpretation of equestrian forms, braiding and harness details.
Collector's Notes:
Collector discussion shows sustained interest in the Della Cavalleria double-face family: forum posts reference an earlier release around 2020 and continued demand in Spring/Summer 2024, with the blanc/orange/rose colorway specifically discussed by September 2024. That pattern suggests this version is followed not only for its equestrian motif, but also for the technical appeal of Hermès double-face printing.
