Story about the Design: During a trip to South Africa, Alice Shirley saw one giraffe, then two, then three, partly hidden behind an acacia tree while feeding. Hermès presents the design as a tribute to the giraffe’s height, elegance, panoramic vision, light sleep, and ecological harmony, especially its role in pruning trees and dispersing seeds.
Artist's Story: Alice Shirley is a North London-based artist and designer born in 1984 whose hand-drawn practice centres on nature and storytelling. She studied at Byam Shaw School of Art and later at the Royal Drawing School. She has collaborated with Hermès since 2012, and her relationship with the house began after members of the Guerrand-Hermès family saw her work, leading to a meeting with the Hermès silk studio and the rapid development of Zebra Pegasus for the Autumn/Winter 2014 collection.
