An exceptional Hermès decorative pillow from the Selle de Dignitaire home collection, distinguished by its intricate embroidery, luxurious cashmere construction and refined equestrian inspiration.
The removable cashmere cover features an elegant Gris Souris border surrounding a richly detailed central composition in Marine Blue, ecru, orange and metallic accents. The pillow is embellished with glass beads, silk and cotton threads, metallic embroidery, decorative studs and cashmere appliqués.
The central scene depicts an elaborately decorated ceremonial saddle, while the surrounding border and four corners are adorned with circular embroidered motifs inspired by traditional passementerie and precious equestrian ornaments.
The Story Behind the Design
The Selle de Dignitaire design was inspired by an antique Sino-Mongolian ceremonial saddle preserved in the Émile Hermès collection. The original saddle, dating from the Qing period, was likely created for a person of high rank and decorated with luxurious materials such as velvet, silver, coral, amber and lapis lazuli.
Wlodek Kaminski reinterpreted this remarkable historical object through elaborate textile work, combining embroidery, appliqués, decorative studs and glass beads. The result is a highly detailed decorative piece that celebrates Hermès’ equestrian heritage and exceptional craftsmanship.
