Story about the Design:
Brides de Gala is the house’s all-time icon: two ceremonial bridles placed face-to-face—a composition conceived in 1957 by Robert Dumas working with illustrator Hugo Grygkar, inspired by harnesses from the Émile Hermès collection. The perfect symmetry and pared-back framing became the template for countless reinterpretations.
The Quadri Tattoo version modernizes the classic through two key choices: a tattoo-like, high-contrast silhouette print and a silk-twill jacquard ground woven with tiny motifs (“abeilles”/bees) that catch the light. In this yellow/white/brown colorway, a bold jaune panel and warm marron balance the crisp blanc border, while the jacquard adds depth without adding color.

Artist's Story:
Hugo Grygkar—often called the father of the Hermès carré—designed Hermès’ first scarf in 1937 and went on to become its most prolific artist. Born in 1907, he settled in France, worked with the maison from the late 1930s, and created enduring motifs including Brides de Gala. His approach blended rigorous composition with museum-grade references from the Émile Hermès archives, yielding designs that still define Hermès silk today.

Collector's Notes:
Among the many Brides de Gala reinterpretations, the Tattoo and Quadri/Tattoo variants are prized for their graphic minimalism and the textured jacquard base; collectors note that neutral or wearable palettes tend to command stronger resale. The 2017 reissue cycle re-energized interest across forums, with repeated calls for more jacquard executions.
