Story about the Design: Graff Hermès is the Maison’s seminal collaboration with Paris graffiti legend Kongo: an explosion of tags, drips and lettering that frames a central “Hermès” piece, translating the energy of street murals onto silk. Debuting in the A/W 2011 collection, the design signalled Hermès’ deliberate bridge to a younger audience and contemporary urban art. The House gave Kongo carte blanche, producing vibrantly coloured carrés whose neon-forward palettes (including Vert fluo and Rose fluo) became instant standouts.
Artist's Story: Cyril Phan, known as Kongo (b. 1969, Toulouse), is a French-Vietnamese graffiti artist who emerged from Paris’s MAC crew. After years painting monumental murals worldwide, he helped found the Kosmopolite festival and evolved into a studio artist collaborating with luxury houses—including Hermès (2011) and later Richard Mille and Airbus—while maintaining his calligraphic, colour-saturated vocabulary rooted in lettering.
