Story about the Design:
“Costume de Fête” celebrates a Polish wedding day in Kraków—“Pan i Pani” (the bride and groom) dressed in their finest—surrounded by beads, coral, gold and silver sequins, fringes and folk florals. Every detail of the central bodice and the exuberant border is drawn from Polish folklore and meticulously rendered by the artist.
Jan Bajtlik based the composition on a circa-100-year-old Kraków corset and blended motifs from traditional Polish paper-cut art (wycinanki) and embroidered flowers. The original artwork was painted in gouache; the carré translates that tactility into silk, with confetti-like dots and dotted “Hermès Paris” lettering adding a celebratory sparkle.

Artist's Story:
Jan Bajtlik (b. 1989) is a Polish graphic artist and illustrator who has collaborated with Hermès since 2016 across women’s and men’s silk, home, jewelry and even watch dials. His first scarf for the Maison, “Animapolis,” debuted in 2019; later notable designs include “Cosmographia Universalis.” Bajtlik studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and is associated with the contemporary Polish School of Posters’ graphic sensibility.

Collector's Notes:
Among scarf collectors, “Costume de Fête” is widely praised as a “keeper” for its joyous palette and strong tie-ability; the rose poudre/cyclamen/jaune colorway is especially admired for its lively drape and photogenic center motif. Community discussions also note that the design’s success extended beyond silk—Hermès later adapted it for an Arceau métier-d’art watch dial—underscoring its collectability.
