Story about the Design:
“Au Gré du Vent” is a poetic study of motion. In the centre, a bouquet of daisies releases a flurry of petals that spiral outward in concentric air currents, a clever visualisation of wind made with fine, orbital lines. Within four small roundels, individual petals carry the inscriptions “Hermès” and “Paris,” a whimsical signature that moves with the flow. The Bordeaux Beige colourway balances warm wine-red accents with soft neutrals, making the dynamic motif easy to pair while still reading as elegant movement when tied. Descriptions from reputable resellers consistently highlight the daisy-and-petal composition and its swirling “by the wind” effect.
Artist's Story:
Dimitri Rybaltchenko is a Paris-based Hermès artist who has been designing carrés since 1990, following in the footsteps of his father, Vladimir Rybaltchenko (who signed “Rybal”), and his great-uncle, the legendary Philippe Ledoux. His work spans classic draftsmanship and modern graphic treatments, often exploring movement, optics and playful trompe-l’œil. Official Hermès editorial confirms his lineage and long collaboration with the Maison; collector resources further note the family’s multi-generational influence on Hermès silk.
Collector's Notes:
Collectors appreciate Au Gré du Vent for its fluid composition that “ties like a neutral” while still showing motion—the concentric rings and scattered petals create interest from any fold. The design appears across multiple materials and treatments, including Plissé and Mousseline; forum posts and listings show it in varied palettes from soft beiges to deeper bordeaux/brown tones, with comments praising the way different colourways flatter when knotted. A charity edition for the Institut Pasteur is also known among collectors.
