Story about the Design: Grand Apparat transforms ceremonial equestrian equipment into a disciplined, symmetrical composition. A horse prepared for a proposed coronation carriage for Louis XVIII occupies the center, while four prancing horses and richly ornamented saddles create a stately procession around it. For this Bandana interpretation, the archival scene is recast within a field of droplets, stars and fine dotted elements. The petrol-blue, natural and black palette sharpens the contrast between harness, heraldic details and horses, giving the historic drawing a graphic, contemporary scale in the generous CS140 format.
Artist's Story: Jacques Eudel is credited by Hermès as the designer of Grand Apparat, first issued in 1962. His drawing is rooted in the maison’s equestrian vocabulary, with the horse, harness, saddlery and ceremonial ornament forming the structure of the composition. The design’s later appearances in silk, enamel and this cashmere-silk Bandana shawl demonstrate the enduring clarity of his original work.
