Story about the Design:
Éperon d’Or is one of Hermès’ enduring equestrian compositions. What first appears to be an abstract maze resolves into tack from the Cadre Noir de Saumur—spurs, stirrups, rein buckles and a riding crop with three golden rings—arranged with Hermès’ hallmark precision. The motif debuted in 1974 and has been revisited repeatedly, including the “Remix” color-blocked interpretations that modernize the graphic rhythm while honoring the original harness-inspired geometry.

Artist's Story:
Henri d’Origny joined Hermès in 1958 and became one of the Maison’s most prolific creators across silk, ties and watchmaking. Beyond iconic carrés like Éperon d’Or, he designed the Cape Cod watch (1991)—a “square in a rectangle” that encapsulates Hermès’ design language—and his work continues to be referenced by the house, including Apple Watch Hermès graphics and leather goods that echo his patterns.
