Story about the Design:
Lettres Équestres draws inspiration from nineteenth-century illustrated trade catalogues preserved in the Émile Hermès collection. Its equestrian forms suggest an alphabet to be deciphered, turning the language of harness-making into a playful graphic puzzle. Letterforms and riding equipment share the composition, inviting a closer look at the connections between them. In Caban and Vert Loden with multicolored accents, the palette brings depth and a restrained contrast to the generous shawl format.
Artist's Story:
Lettres Équestres is attributed to Hermès' internal design team; an individual artist has not been confirmed. Hermès' Paris-based Studio Dessins develops drawings into designs suited to the maison's many objects. Graphic designers, art directors and other specialists work with creators and the house archive, preserving earlier drawings while finding new ways to interpret them across materials and formats.
