Story about the Design:
A pale ground sets off caramel and burnt-orange accents, striped borders and curling equestrian motifs arranged around a symmetrical centre. The composition layers the ornamental curves of Éperon d’Or over the blanketed horses of Couvertures et Tenues de Jour. Open and enclosed shapes reveal different portions of the underlying drawing, giving the shawl a balance of generous light areas and detailed vignettes. Its warm edging provides a clear outline when draped or folded.
Artist's Story:
Henri d’Origny’s work for Hermès extends from scarf designs to watchmaking, including the Arceau line introduced in 1978. Jacques Eudel’s equestrian drawings give particular attention to the horse and its dress; Hermès links his Couvertures et Tenues de Jour to historic illustrated albums in Émile Hermès’ collection. This composition brings their graphic and illustrative approaches together.
